VF GROUP BARDIANI-CSF FAIZANÈ: AT THE GIRO, THE BREAKAWAY OF TAROZZI AND TONELLI. 9TH PLACE FOR RICCARDO LUCCA IN GREECE.
The duo Tarozzi-Tonelli broke away during the thirteenth stage of the Giro d'Italia, with the Romagnolo rider winning the Intergiro sprint.
The stage was marked by the long breakaway of Manuele Tarozzi and Alessandro Tonelli (VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè), who took the lead right after the start and quickly built a good advantage. However, the main peloton, led by the Lidl-Trek, Alpecin-Deceuninck, and Soudal-Quick Step teams, did not want to take any risks and kept the escapees under control, allowing them a maximum advantage of 3 minutes.
Shortly before the 30 km to go mark, Martin Marcellusi (VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè) and Dries De Pooter (Intermarché-Wanty) attempted a new breakaway. The two managed to gain up to 34 seconds, but Soudal and Alpecin carefully monitored and managed the situation.
In the final sprint, the first rider from the team was Enrico Zanoncello, who finished in twelfth place.
