VF GROUP BARDIANI-CSF FAIZANÈ: A GIRO D’ITALIA AS ABSOLUTE PROTAGONISTS.
Two riders in the top twenty in the general classification, victory in the Intergiro classification with Fiorelli, and the very young Pellizzari who put on a show in the climbs.
A very positive result in this Giro d’Italia for the VF Group Bardiani-CSF Faizanè. Thanks to a constant presence in breakaways, the team collected an impressive six Intergiro sprints, three of which were won by the Sicilian Filippo Fiorelli, who claimed the final victory in this special classification. Fiorelli also wore the cyclamen jersey for two days.
In terms of the general classification, the team has two athletes in the top 20, with Emiliano Covili in eighteenth place and the indomitable Domenico Pozzovivo in twentieth place, who raced the final stage of his Giro career yesterday.
The absolute revelation and Italian face of the race was the twenty-year-old Giulio Pellizzari. The athlete from Camerino, the youngest at the start of the Giro, thrilled fans and enthusiasts by nearly winning the sixteenth stage at Monte Pana. On that occasion, he had to settle for second place behind an unbeatable Tadej Pogačar.
The young rider from the Marche region demonstrated his worth on other occasions as well, winning the prestigious KOM at Passo Sella, the Cima Coppi of this Giro d’Italia, ahead of Nairo Quintana. Pellizzari also secured sixth place in the penultimate stage, where he put on a show with a long-range attack on Monte Grappa, winning the KOM and attempting a big win, a dream shattered by Tadej Pogačar.
Looking at the team classification, the VF Group Bardiani-CSF Faizanè secured seventh place behind teams such as Bahrain Victorious, Bora Hansgrohe, Astana, UAE, INEOS Grenadiers, and Decathlon AG2R.
Roberto Reverberi, team manager of the team, states: “We couldn’t have asked for more from this Giro d’Italia; we only missed out on a victory, but we always held our own and analyzed every stage in minute detail. I can say that I am proud of our riders and what they have shown in this Giro. In Giulio’s (Pellizzari) case, the satisfaction is doubled because he is a young man we have developed for three years and guided to a great stage like the Giro d’Italia, where he came close to winning. I also want to thank my sporting directors who supported me, and all team members, medical staff, mechanics, and masseurs. I would like to thank our sponsors who have trusted us for many years.”
