ORSINI FORCED TO ABANDON GIRO D’ITALIA
AN ACUTE INFLAMMATION OF THE LEFT KNEE THE CAUSE
Umberto Orsini is forced to close prematurely his first experience at Giro d’Italia. An acute inflammation of the iliotibial band of the left knee has occurred since two days to the twenty-four-year-old rider of Bardiani-CSF, and only thanks his tenacity and the support of tecar therapy he was able to finish the stages.
This morning, in the warming up training in view of the Riccione-San Marino time trial, the pain became unsustainable and Bardiani-CSF doctor, Dr. Giampaolo Benini, in accordance with sports directors, imposed the stop to the rider.
In the eight stages raced by Orsini in the Giro he was however able to highlight himself with a breakaway in stage 5 Frascati-Terracina. Tomorrow, the first rest day of the Giro, he will return home to face a rest period combined with physiotherapy.
