MAESTRI HAS WON THE ORANGE JERSEY AT TIRRENO-ADRIATICO
“IT’S A HUGE SATISFACTION” HAS SAID THE ITALIAN RIDER
Mission accomplished: Mirco Maestri has won the points classification of 2019 Tirreno-Adriatico and today, on the podium in San Benedetto del Tronto, he has worn the orange jersey.
In the first World Tour race of its season, Bardiani-CSF can thus celebrate a result of great prestige that came thanks to a trademark of the team: the breakaway. Maestri won the jersey thanks to four breakaways on five road races stages, useful to win the intermediate sprints and to earn 31 points of his leadership. Behind him finished Yates at 27 and Alaphilippe at 26.
“This jersey is a huge satisfaction” said Maestri, who covered 650 km in the breakaway. “It’s a very important success both for me both for the team. I needed a lot of grit to wear this shirt. It’s the symbol of our way to race: being in the front and attack. We well know l that, in such important races, we have to fight every day to carve out our space. This shirt repays all the efforts. And I hope also the trust of our sponsors, Bardiani and CSF firs of all, who always support us with great passion “.
In the 2017 Race of the Two Seas Maestri got closed to conquest the same jersey. “I conquered 40 points, always thanks to intermediate sprints, but I had to fight with a stratospheric Peter Sagan who beat me by two points. At the end of the race he present me the shirt, with a special dedication: C’mon Mirco, next one is yours. It was a good omen… ”
Maestri, born in 1992 in the province of Reggio Emilia, became professional rider in 2016 with the #GreenTeam. He achieved two successes in his career so far, stage and final classification at 2018 Tour of Rhodes. He already has two jerseys in his personal palmares: the points one at 2018 Tour of Rhodes and the KoM at 2017 Tour of Turkey.
