It is with great regret that Green Project Bardiani-CSF Faizanè announces the withdrawal of Luca Covili from the Giro d’Italia 2023 due to gastroenteritis. After consultation with team doctors, it was decided that withdrawal from the Giro d’Italia was the only responsible choice to ensure the rider’s full and speedy recovery.
Luca Covili states “I had set the season to have as my main goal a stage win at the Giro d’Italia. But unfortunately things did not go all right due to a series of mishaps including the two crashes in the first week. Today’s stage (18th) was the one I had been aiming for since the beginning of the Giro to hit the breakaway and get a good result. unfortunately in the last 2 days I’ve been very sick, I tried to hold on in yesterday’s stage (completing it), but strong gastroenteritis due to the cold caught in the past few days forced me to stop. I will definitely come back stronger than before for the next events.”
