BARDIANI CSF FAIZANÈ: FILIPPO ZANA WENT CLOSE TO THE VICTORY OF THE FIRST STAGE OF ADRIATICA IONICA RACE. SECOND STAGE PLACE AND FIRST PLACE IN THE YOUTH CLASSIFICATION.

Adrenalinic final in the first stage of the Ionian Adriatic. Luca Covili attacks on the last GPM of the day together with 2 other riders. In the final it is Zana who tries it with 5 other riders and went close to the victory. For him 2nd place of the day behind Scaroni (Italy). The second step of today's podium also allows him to wear the first white jersey of best young rider of the competition.

The first stage of the Adriatica Ionica Race sees Filippo Zana close in second place of the day on the arrival of Monfalcone. After 189 km of the race, 5 riders left the group just in the final km to fight for the stage victory and the first leader’s jersey. Christian Scaroni (Italy) wins, ahead of Filippo Zana and the Spaniard Raul Garcia Pierna of Equipo Ken Pharma.

Stage characterized by a first breakaway of 4 men closed by the group. On the last GPM of the day, 3 riders take some advantage, including Luca Covili of Bardiani CSF Faizanè, who try to anticipate. The group reacts leaving no space, and when everything seems destined to decide in the sprint, 5 men escape from the group. Among these the 23 year old of Bardiani CSF Faizanè Filippo Zana, who is fighting for the victory in the narrow sprint, preceding the group launched in the sprint 20 seconds from the treads.

For him second place, but he can still console himself with the primacy in the youth classification that he can try to defend in the next stages.

Behind them the group flew with Sacha Modolo who closed the top 10 of the day.

Here the words of Filippo Zana, just after the finish-line:

“Today our whole team was fine and we raced to win the race. We make a strong pace on the climbto skim the group and there were about twenty riders left, 4 of whom escaped, including Luca Covili. Unfortunately, the group regrouped afterwards, but I felt good so I went after a few final breakaway attempts and we were at first in 5, then in two, me and the Kern Pharma rider who unfortunately did not give me great collaboration. So in the end Scaroni came back from behind and I who had spent in the various attacks were no longer able to beat him also because he arrived precisely launched. I feel very good and I see that my teammates are pedaling hard too, so starting tomorrow on Monte Grappa we will try again to get results. Keeping the best youngster jersey is a goal, but we honestly hope and aim for something more.”
