7TH PLACE OF FILIPPO FIORELLI IN THE FIRST SPRINT OF THE GIRO D’ITALIA. UMBERTO MARENGO IN THE BREAKWAY.

First breakaway and first top 10, both of them reached in the first occasion of the Giro d'Italia n.104. Excellent first balance for Bardiani CSF Faizanè with the Sicilian rider, a surprise of the team in the 2020 Giro, which confirmed himself in a top 10 of the highest level.

In the second stage of the 2021 Giro d’Italia, the team’s first top 10 immediately arrives thanks to the excellent 7th place of Filippo Fiorelli who is into a top 10 of great sprinters.

The stage.

179 km from Stupinigi to Novara, this is the first stage in the line of the Giro d’Italia n.104. The first breakaway of the Giro starts immediately, and Bardiani CSF Faizanè responds with the rider from Turin, Umberto Marengo, strongly motivated to attack on the home roads. Escape that characterized the first 150 km of the stage, even if it is always under control by the numerous teams of sprinters who did not want to miss one of the few opportunities in this Giro d’Italia for a “flat” sprint. In the last 20 km the group’s brawl begins for the sprint of the day. For the Bardiani CSF Faizanè, at the start without a pure sprinter, the designated rider for the sprint is Filippo Fiorelli who already in the 2020 edition had shown that he knows how to juggle two top 10s. On the first occasion he is very good at taking advantage of a fairly technical finish, jumping from one wheel to the other and placing a good seventh place in the stage.

These are the words of the Sicilian athlete upon arrival: “Although I am not a pure sprinter, I am the athlete designated in case of group arrivals, to try the sprint. Compared to last year I have gained much more confidence, in addition to the two top 10 I have achieved a victory and podiums in other races always in the sprint and therefore I know I can stay in arrivals like this. In the final, a skid by Gaviria that I feared would fall made me brake and lose contact with the athletes in front of me even though I don’t think I would have been able to jump any further positions. Good seventh place considering my characteristics, waiting for the right stage and escape.”
